Biblical basics Christian challenge

EDIT: April 27th 2009. I wanted to make this idea something of a long running thread. After just two days I realised that in order to do that, it would require me to make the scope of the debate much wider than the historicity of the bible because a) any Christian apologist worth debating is fully aware of the inconsistencies and b) it would be like shooting fish in a barrel to debate anyone who isn’t aware of these contradictions. So this thread will return at some point in the future, complete with live twitter integration, on the wider implications of biblical literalism and how both atheists and believers can combat extremism. Stay, as they say, tuned.

Every day this week throughout this month I will be posting a challenge on the basic questions, open to everyone following me on twitter to answer. Those who reply will be asked to comment here. Respondents are free to link to relevant articles on their own blog as well as being invited to reply here too.

I will edit this main blog entry for each day of the week as each new challenge is posted and paste some of your twitter replies here too.

  1. Yahweh is a God of grace – We do not merit our own salvation but rather, it is gifted to us. Every other belief system (that I’ve come across) is based upon some sort of karmic system – what you do comes back to you. The message that Yahweh gives to us is that we cannot earn our salvation in any way, but only rely upon his grace and mercy.

I enjoy how statements need no further substantiation when ‘history’ simply becomes ‘HISTORY!’

It confirms what I wrote in a recent guide about how to talk to atheists. High-larious.
