Firstly, I thought the Rick Warren speech in the inauguration itself was sickening. It really took the shine off the whole thing for me. The only silver lining is that, when Warren is outed as either a homosexual drug addict or a Jew hating hypocrite, like Ted Haggard and Billy Graham before him, at least everyone who knew it was a bad idea to have someone who thinks the world was created by a magic man, less than 10,000 years ago, involved in the first place, gets I told you so bragging rights.
Obama’s paraphrasing of his own book, ‘The Audacity of Hope’, where he specifically mentions non-believers as being just as much of a vital part of the change agenda was, of course, most welcome—especially that he should say it in the presence of George Bush Senior, who repeated several times in his presidency and as Reagan’s vice president, that he believed agnostics and atheists were not entitled to consider themselves real Americans.
It was also warming to see Dick in a wheelchair. Some wise commentator on reddit already beat me to the Bond villain analogy, but I’m just happy to have finally seen the NRA supporting, constitution shitting on, war profiteering, lying, daughter hating, self loathing, ignoramus architect of evil finally gone. Fingers crossed he’ll die in pain from a disease stem-cell research would seek to find a cure for, just as the last of the troops are ordered home.
I thought 43 and wife conducted themselves well, i.e., the only thing they did was leave and wave. Shame we had to wait 8 years to find out what exactly W. can do without fucking up.
I could hardly believe how bad the actual swearing-in was handled by the chief justice. Nerves are a bitch.
I was also sad to hear Ted Kennedy didn’t get to enjoy the whole day.
Over-all though, BUSH IS GONE!!!!!! Now let’s not lose momentum here and get on with the real work! Total world domination by militant atheist, black, severely disabled, lesbians before 2010. A big ask, I know—but, repeat after me, yes we can!
