When it comes to whistle blowers, even the most hardened of activists must stand in awe of the actions of Mordechai Vanunu.
In 1986 he revealed to the world that, as a worker at the Dimona nuclear power plant in Israel, he had photographic evidence and first hand experience of the secret nuclear weapons program which was taking place at the site behind false walls to hide it from UN inspection.
Weeks later, in a Mossad lead honey trap operation, he was illegally arrested on foreign soil and returned to Israel where he was held in solitary confinement for 11 years. He remains a controversial figure to this day, to some Israelis a traitor, to others a shining example of peaceful protest.
