Which two multi-platinum recording artists would you never put in the same room together?

  1. Kind of like modern cuisine. I mean sometimes you think, “Okay, clams and pickles, they DO taste good together, who’d a thunk it?” Sometimes it works. But there are limits.

A few years ago, I read a description of a modern french philosopher’s take on the mix of cultures. The idea is that “there is no regulon in the semiosphere.” A regulon ,as he defined it, is the barrier that would exist in nature to prevent hybrids (can’t mate a dog with a cat etc.)The semiosphere is the world of culture and ideas. And THERE, there are no barriers. Which is why we get living monsters like the above. Or as I saw in a supermarket the last time I was home in the states, “Good Seasons Fat-Free Thai-style Green Chili Flavored Mayonnaise.” In a squeezable tube, no less. Or Nirvana in a Nike ad. Or Freddy Mercury and Montserrat Caballé singing “Amigos para siempre” at the avant-garde Olympic opening ceremonies.
